Weekend Recap: Championships Tighten as January Comes to a Close

Authored by Samuel Reiman on January 29, 2024
Four weeks into the 2024 Monster Jam season, and Grave Digger, Son-Uva Digger and El Toro Loco each lead different tour championships, with two tours seeing single-digit points leads.

Stadium Championship Series East – St. Louis

Tristan England (JCB DIGatron) put an end to the winning streak of Tyler Menninga (Grave Digger) in St. Louis. Menninga had taken the first five Overall Event Championship wins this season, but England won Racing and placed third in Skills and Freestyle on Sunday to claim the sixth Overall of the season and the first for JCB DIGatron. Tom Meents (Max-D) and Bryce Kenny (Great Clips Mohawk Warrior) also gave us some incredible highlights during Freestyle:

Stadium Championship Series West – San Diego

The Anderson vs. Anderson battle we have all been anticipating is in full swing, as Ryan Anderson (Son-uva Digger) swept both Overall Event Championships in San Diego to give him a 7-point lead over Adam Anderson (Grave Digger), as well as Camden Murphy (Bakugan Dragonoid) in the standings. Ryan Anderson nearly swept every competition of the weekend, with only Murphy breaking through for a Racing win, and Joe Foley (El Toro Loco) breaking through for a Freestyle win.

Arena Championship Series Central – Newark

For just the first time this season, Weston Anderson (Grave Digger) completed the weekend sweep. In doing so, he extended his points lead to 89 points over Jamie Sullivan (Monster Mutt Dalmatian) who – along with Frank Krmel (Zombie) – did not compete on Sunday. Brianna Mahon (Scooby-Doo) performed strongly throughout the weekend, finishing two of the events in 2nd and one in 3rd. Mikayla Tulachka (Megalodon), Fernando Martinez (El Toro Loco) and Brandan Tulachka (Just Get-Er-Done II) also picked up competition wins in the new Wheelie Competition.

Arena Championship Series East – Washington D.C.

The points battle between Armando Castro (El Toro Loco) and Krysten Anderson (Grave Digger) continues to be tight, with both picking up Overall Event victories last weekend in the nation’s capital. After three weeks of competition, Castro leads the standings by 3 points. Coty Saucier (Dragon) got a Racing win, and Zack Garner (Wild Side) got a Skills Challenge win, and they sit third and fourth in the standings respectively.

Arena Championship Series West – Sacramento

Brandon Vinson (Grave Digger) has placed 1st or 2nd in all 18 events over the opening four weekends of the 2024 Arena Championship Series West season, building his points lead up to 98 points over Tony Ochs (ThunderROARus). While Ochs, along with MJ Solorio (El Toro Loco) and Ashley Sanford (Megalodon) also took home competition wins, it was Dalton Widner (Jurassic Attack) who posed the biggest challenge to Vinson. Widner swept all four Racing competitions and took home the first Overall Event Championship of the weekend.
